Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya last year, surrendered before a Shillong trial court on Tuesday after the Supreme Court of India cancelled her bail.

What actually happened?
Sonam appeared before the trial court after the Apex Court cancelled her bail on July 23 and directed her to surrender within three weeks, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said.
After her surrender, she was remanded to judicial custody.
On June 29, the Meghalaya High Court upheld a trial order granting bail to Sonam, but the decision was overturned by the Supreme Court of India, as the court held that Sonam’s continued release could hamper the ongoing trial and cancelled her bail.
However, the SC observed that if the trial does not conclude within six months, Sonam could file a fresh bail application.
The murder case
Sonam was arrested in June 2025 in connection with the killing of her businessman husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The couple had gone missing while vacationing in Meghalaya on May 23, 2025 and Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge on June 2.

The Police have reported that Sonam conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha to murder Raja during their honeymoon for financial gain.
