Delhi Police has written to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, seeking the removal of posts and videos containing alleged abusive or derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other constitutional authorities.
The move comes days after complaints were filed over content shared online following the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led student protests and the police action during the July 20 ‘Chalo Sansad’ march.
Police seek removal of posts and account details
According to news agency PTI, Delhi Police has asked X to take down the objectionable content and share details of the accounts that uploaded it.
The information sought includes login and logout records, timestamps of the posts, the account holder’s full name, address, contact details and email ID.

Police have also requested the platform to preserve all records related to the alleged posts and videos for future investigation. In addition, X has been asked to provide a certificate under Section 63(4) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
Online activity linked to CJP protests under watch
The action follows complaints regarding offensive language allegedly directed at Prime Minister Modi during the student protests at Jantar Mantar and after the police crackdown on protesters during the July 20 march.
Delhi Police said its social media monitoring team has been continuously tracking online platforms to identify objectionable content. According to PTI, notices are being issued to social media intermediaries whenever such content is detected, directing them to remove the material.
Officials also said online activity related to the student protests is being closely monitored.
Centre also summons Meta over PM Modi video removal
The development comes shortly after the Centre summoned Meta’s global affairs chief Joel Kaplan and Instagram head Adam Mosseri over the removal of Prime Minister Modi’s video messages from Facebook and Instagram.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) called the meeting to discuss compliance with IT rules and concerns surrounding synthetically generated content on Meta’s platforms.

“The removal of Prime Minister Modi’s reel from Instagram is just one of the issues that will be discussed. MeitY wants to have a larger conversation about synthetically generated content on their platforms and the non-compliance with IT rules,” a senior ministry official had told HT.
Meta later said the content had been removed “in error” because of a technical glitch.
