FSSAI suspends Park Plaza Hotel licence after inspection reveals violations

FSSAI’s decision to suspend the Park Plaza Hotel’s licence followed an inspection that exposed multiple critical lapses in food handling and storage practices.

According to the regulator, inspectors found heavily deteriorated and darkened cooking oil being used repeatedly for frying, making it unsuitable for consumption. The team also discovered more than 63 kilograms of expired food items stored for use in food preparation.

The inspection further revealed fungal growth on vegetables including tomatoes and beetroot, spoiled lemons kept in storage and poor segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items and utensils. These findings prompted immediate regulatory action against the establishment.

Hygiene failures raise food safety concerns

FSSAI suspended the Park Plaza Hotel’s licence after documenting several sanitation failures across the hotel’s kitchen and storage areas.

Officials reported leaking water inside walk-in chillers, stagnant water caused by broken flooring and widespread infestation of flies and cockroaches in food preparation zones. Live earwigs were also found within the kitchen premises, highlighting serious shortcomings in pest control measures.

The regulator stated that such conditions pose significant risks to food safety and public health, making immediate intervention necessary.

The hotel asked to comply within 15 days

While the FSSAI suspended the Park Plaza Hotel licence, the authority has provided the hotel an opportunity to rectify the identified shortcomings.

The establishment has been instructed to fully comply with food safety regulations within 15 days. If the violations remain unresolved, the licence could be cancelled permanently.

The action also reflects FSSAI’s broader enforcement campaign targeting food businesses across India. In recent months, the regulator has taken action against manufacturers, restaurants and catering operators over misleading claims, poor food quality and safety violations. It has also increased transparency by publicly sharing enforcement actions through its official communication channels.
