Himachal Pradesh Police orchestra’s lead faces suspension, but why?

The face of Harmony of Pines, the orchestra led by the Himachal Pradesh Police personnel, has been reportedly suspended over allegations that he commercially exploited private music content on social media platforms, without obtaining permission from the authorities.

Leader suspended

A departmental inquiry has been initiated with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Police Lines), Kamal Kishore, as the inquiry Officer.

The suspended cop, Inspector Vijay Kumar was given a show-cause notice to produce documentary evidence of prior departmental approval for his actions, along with the income earned through social media platforms, as per reports by Hindustan Times.

After submitting his reply on July 3, the department found it unsatisfactory since it did not address the specific allegations.

The Director General of Police observed that Kumar’s conduct was contrary to Rule 14.33 of the Punjab Police Rules and Sections 86 and 87 of the Himachal Pradesh Police Act, 2007, leading to a violation of statutory and departmental provisions governing the conduct and discipline of police personnel. The order further stated that Kumar’s actions amounted to misconduct and indiscipline and hence, Kumar will remain suspended until the completion of the investigation.

The Harmony of Pines

Hindustan Times reported that the Harmony of Pines was started in 1996 and has earned a lot of fame. The 17-member music band reached the grand finale of a TV reality show called Hunarbaaz on Colors TV and received permission to perform in police uniform in 2016, but with a striped yellow and black handkerchief around their necks.

The Himachal Pradesh Police band has represented the state in several national and international events, including performances in France, Italy, Canada, Singapore and Dubai.
