The death of a Hyderabad software engineer has turned into a complex police probe after investigators said a missing temple idol may hold a crucial clue in the case.

The woman, identified as Tejaswini, allegedly removed her clothes, entered a nearby temple naked, picked up an idol of Goddess Ammavaru, and then walked to a pond, where she jumped into the water. Her body was later recovered, but the idol has not been found.

More than meets the eye

The Disaster Response Force has deployed boats to search the pond for the idol, which investigators believe could be an important piece of evidence.

Police have also questioned Tejaswini’s mother, Aruna, as part of the inquiry. The team is examining a death declaration believed to have been written by the woman, along with financial transactions and her movements in the days leading up to the incident.

Every clue is now under the glass

The investigation has also widened to include the rented flat where Tejaswini was staying. Police found that she was allegedly paying around Rs 3,500 a day, or nearly Rs 1 lakh a month, and are checking whether the top two floors of the building, which were allegedly being operated as a lodge, have any connection to the case.

Officials are also reviewing CCTV footage, witness statements, and forensic material to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Answers remain frustratingly elusive

Police have said Tejaswini is suspected to have died by suicide, but they have not reached an official conclusion on the exact sequence of events or the motive behind her actions.

Kerala Kaumudi reported that she was a former software engineer from Hyderabad, while India Today said investigators were treating the missing idol as a potentially crucial link in the case. The probe remains open as officers continue to search for the idol and verify the material collected so far.
