Congress to launch nationwide agitation over unemployment, inflation and paper leaks

On Thursday, Congress announced that it is planning to launch a protest movement at the national level against the BJP government led by Narendra Modi on the issue of unemployment, inflation, and leakage of exam papers among others.

This decision was made during a meeting where party leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi, party general secretaries, state in-charges, and Pradesh Congress Committee presidents took part.

As per Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal, the protest campaign will kick off by the end of June and will last for two to three months.

Venugopal posted about the protest on his social networking site X after the meeting where party leaders talked about unemployment, repeated leakage of exam papers, inflation, and economic crisis in the country. The news about protest comes a day after BJP celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi becoming the country’s longest-serving prime minister.

Congress targets Government on economy and youth issues

Addressing a press conference, Venugopal said the party intends to take up issues affecting young people, including employment opportunities and concerns over recruitment examinations.

He alleged that rising prices of essential commodities, including fuel and cooking gas, had increased pressure on households, while the MSME sector was facing difficulties.

“The youth are worried about their future. There is no employment,” Venugopal said while outlining the party’s criticism of the government’s economic policies.

The Congress leader also said the meeting discussed what the party views as broader concerns relating to democracy, constitutional institutions and social justice.

Rajya Sabha nomination row also discussed

Discussion was also held regarding the fiasco involving the rejected nomination papers of Ms. Meenakshi Natarajan, leader of the Congress Party, for her election to the Rajya Sabha.

Venugopal added that the Congress Party intended to fight this matter both legally and politically. He alleged that the BJP was trying to build their strength by making opposition leaders join their ranks.

The Congress Party is soon expected to finalize the program for conducting the agitation campaign. It may involve active participation of state units in the organization of rallies across the country.
