‘It’s a representational image’: Railways clarifies bullet train photo at Rail Bhawan

An image of a bullet train displayed at Rail Bhawan recently drew widespread attention, with several visitors and reports suggesting it offered a first glimpse of India’s upcoming high-speed train. However, Railway Board officials have now clarified that the image is merely symbolic and not the final design of the train.

The photograph, installed inside the premises, quickly gained traction as many believed it to be linked to the country’s first bullet train, expected to begin operations in August 2027. Multiple media outlets also carried reports describing it as an official preview.

Officials deny authenticity of image

Railway authorities have firmly rejected these claims, stating that the image does not represent the actual train currently under development. “It is a representational image and not the final one. We might remove it if it creates a controversy”, Hindustan Times quoted a senior official as saying.

The official further added, “Since the bullet train is the country’s most ambitious and dream project, it has created a lot of sensation.”

The clarification aims to curb misinformation and manage expectations around the high-profile infrastructure project.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor progress

India’s first bullet train project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, spans 508 km and has been under construction since its launch in 2016. The corridor is designed to support trains running at speeds of up to 320 kmph, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities.

The initial phase of operations is currently targeted for August 2027, marking a major milestone in India’s rail modernization efforts.

The country’s first bullet train is being manufactured by BEML in Bengaluru. According to officials, the train is expected to be ready in time for the planned launch.
