What makes Friendfluence so popular?
Devyn Simone, Tinder’s resident relationship expert, explains that this trend emerges due to the changed attitude to dating among Generation Z.
Instead of looking at dating as a private and personal thing, they start perceiving it as something organic for their social environment.
Social media has also accelerated the trend. Platforms such as TikTok have turned dating into a shared conversation through “Date With Me” videos, dating advice, and stories about relationship experiences.
The trend has also contributed to the growing popularity of double dates and casual group outings instead of traditional first dates.
According to Tinder, users under the age of 30 account for nearly 90% of people using its Double Date feature. The platform also found that women are almost three times more likely to match with a pair than with an individual profile.
Simone says bringing friends into the dating process makes the experience feel safer, more relaxed and less intimidating.
“Dating is simply more fun and way less intimidating when your friends are part of the experience,” she told Cosmopolitan.
Can friends influence your love life too much?
Although Friendfluence is considered to be a better option compared to stressful dating, experts advise not to delegate making decisions about relationships to friends.
According to Sarah Hensley, the founder of The Love Doc, spending quality time with friends as a couple may improve the relationship but warns not to base decisions solely on friends’ approval.
