Sakshi also became the fourth Indian boxer to assure a podium finish at the Games, joining Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jadumani Singh (55kg).

Sakshi dominates with smart tactics

Competing after moving down from the 54kg category, Sakshi made the most of her height and reach advantage from the opening round. She consistently controlled the distance, landing accurate jabs and straight punches while preventing Fryers from settling into the contest.

“Her strategy was to fight from close range and she kept clinching. Mine was to box from long range which is my forte,” Sakshi said after the bout.

The Northern Ireland boxer tried to close the gap with constant pressure and frequent attacks, but Sakshi remained calm throughout. She avoided many of the incoming punches with quick movement before responding with clean scoring combinations.

Indian boxer stays in control

The contest featured several clinches as both fighters repeatedly came together at close range. During one exchange in the second round, both boxers lost balance and fell to the canvas.

Despite Fryers’ aggressive approach, Sakshi never allowed the bout to slip from her control. Her movement around the ring, disciplined footwork and ability to maintain distance helped her dictate the pace from start to finish.
