Brazil’s senior men’s football team could make a historic visit to Kolkata later this year, with reports claiming the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is in advanced talks to organise an international friendly during the October FIFA international window. While no official announcement has been made, discussions are said to be progressing positively.

Salt Lake Stadium emerges as likely venue

According to the ESPN Brazil, the proposed match is expected to be held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium), one of India’s most iconic football venues. However, Brazil’s opponent and the exact date of the fixture are yet to be finalised.

The friendly is reportedly part of Brazil’s international schedule, with the team expected to play two matches in Australia in late September before travelling to India for a possible third game during the October international break.

Kolkata could host Brazil for the first time

If the plans materialise, it will mark the first visit of Brazil’s senior men’s national team to Kolkata. The city has long been known for its passionate football culture and its deep admiration for the five-time FIFA World Cup champions.

Brazil’s Under-17 team played in Kolkata during the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and received overwhelming support from local fans. That experience is believed to have strengthened the CBF’s interest in bringing the senior team to the city.
