Wesley’s World Cup dream cut short
Wesley picked up a muscle injury in his left thigh during Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Egypt. The 22-year-old was forced off early in the match and was visibly emotional as he left the pitch. Subsequent medical examinations confirmed the severity of the problem, ending his hopes of featuring at the World Cup.

The setback is particularly challenging for Brazil because Wesley was the only specialist right-back named in Ancelotti’s original 26-man squad. His absence leaves a gap in the defensive setup at a crucial stage of preparations. The Brazilian Football Confederation expressed disappointment over the injury and reiterated that Wesley remains an important figure for the national team moving forward.
Ederson was drafted in as a replacement
In response to Wesley’s withdrawal, Brazil has called up Atalanta midfielder Ederson to join the World Cup squad. Although Ederson plays in midfield, his inclusion adds depth and experience to the group ahead of the tournament.
