Apple bets on AI and foldables as iOS 27 takes centre stage at WWDC 2026

Apple bets on AI and foldables as iOS 27 takes centre stage at WWDC 2026

As developers, analysts, and Apple enthusiasts turn their attention to WWDC 2026, the spotlight is firmly on iOS 27. Unlike last year’s update, which introduced the Liquid Glass interface and a dramatic visual overhaul, this year’s software appears to be centred on something far more consequential: artificial intelligence.

Apple is expected to use its annual developer conference to showcase how AI will be woven deeper into the iPhone experience. At the heart of that strategy is a redesigned Siri, which is reportedly set to receive its most significant upgrade since the voice assistant first launched. The company is expected to position Siri as a more conversational and context-aware assistant capable of remembering previous interactions, understanding user habits and helping complete everyday tasks more intelligently.

Siri prepares for a major transformation

According to The Indian Express, the biggest talking point ahead of the event is Siri’s expected evolution into a generative AI assistant. Reports suggest the assistant will gain memory functions that allow it to reference previous conversations and offer proactive suggestions based on a user’s schedule, location and activity.

Apple is also expected to introduce a dedicated Siri chatbot experience that could allow users to upload files, interact through a conversational interface and access AI-powered assistance beyond traditional voice commands. A redesigned interface integrated with the Dynamic Island is also reportedly in the works, replacing the familiar Siri orb with a more modern visual experience.

The move signals Apple’s attempt to narrow the gap with AI competitors while maintaining its privacy-focused approach.

Built for the foldable future

According to The Indian Express, beyond artificial intelligence, iOS 27 is reportedly being developed with Apple’s first foldable iPhone in mind. Expected to arrive later this year, the device could feature a larger inner display that requires significant software adjustments.

To accommodate this new form factor, Apple is believed to be introducing enhanced multitasking tools, including side-by-side app usage and flexible window management features. Native applications are also expected to receive redesigned layouts optimised for larger screens.

These changes indicate that Apple sees foldable devices as a major part of its future hardware strategy rather than a niche experiment.

Smarter tools across the iPhone experience

According to The Indian Express, artificial intelligence is expected to extend beyond Siri into everyday apps. Users may gain access to advanced writing assistance, grammar correction tools, AI-generated wallpapers and more intelligent photo-editing capabilities.

The Camera app could become more customisable, while the Photos app is expected to receive new AI-driven editing features that can extend image frames, improve visual quality and adjust compositions automatically.
