Honda ADV160 patent filing sparks speculation over India launch

Honda may finally be preparing to enter India’s growing premium scooter space after patenting the ADV160 in the country, fueling speculation about a possible launch in the near future.

The ADV160 has already built a strong following across Southeast Asian markets, where it is known for blending the practicality of a maxi-scooter with rugged adventure-inspired styling. The scooter stands out with its aggressive LED headlamps, tall windscreen, muscular bodywork, and upright riding posture.

Its adventure-tourer-inspired design gives it a distinctive presence compared to conventional scooters currently available in the Indian market.

Adventure styling meets premium features

According to Bike India, internationally, the ADV160 is powered by a 157cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 16.2 hp and 14.7 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT automatic transmission.

The scooter also packs several premium features, including ABS, traction control, keyless ignition, smartphone connectivity, USB charging, and a TFT instrument console. Honda has additionally equipped it with generous under-seat storage and long-travel suspension designed to handle rougher roads comfortably.

These features position the ADV160 as a lifestyle-oriented urban adventure scooter rather than a traditional commuter.

Honda could target growing sporty scooter segment

According to Bike India, although a patent filing does not guarantee a launch, the timing has sparked interest as Indian buyers increasingly gravitate towards performance-focused and premium scooters.

The segment has seen rising demand with models like the Aprilia SR 175, Yamaha Aerox 155, Hero Xoom 160, and TVS Ntorq 150 expanding consumer interest in sporty automatic two-wheelers.

Industry observers believe the ADV160 could help Honda shake off its image of focusing mainly on practical commuter scooters.

Expected pricing and positioning

According to Bike India, if introduced in India, the ADV160 is expected to be priced between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹1.7 lakh ex-showroom, placing it firmly in the premium scooter category.

The model is likely to target younger riders, urban commuters, and touring enthusiasts looking for a mix of practicality, comfort, and adventure-inspired styling.
