The electric mobility landscape in Delhi-NCR has gained a new entrant with the arrival of Green SM, a Vietnam-based ride-hailing company that has officially launched its operations in India. Beginning with a fleet of 1,000 electric vehicles in the National Capital Region, the company is betting on growing demand for premium and environmentally friendly transport options in one of the country’s largest urban markets.
The launch marks Green SM’s entry into its fourth international market after expanding across Southeast Asia. Company officials say the India operation is part of a broader plan to deploy nearly 10,000 electric vehicles nationwide in the coming years.
Targeting the premium EV cab segment
According to The Indian Express, unlike app-based aggregators such as Uber and Rapido, Green SM follows an asset-owned model in which the company owns and operates its vehicles directly. The strategy gives the company greater control over vehicle quality, maintenance and passenger experience.
Its India operations will begin with the VinFast Limo Green, a seven-seater electric SUV developed specifically for passenger transport. Company executives said they are initially focusing on the premium mobility segment, which they estimate accounts for around 7-10 per cent of the overall market.
The move is also being viewed as an attempt to capture a segment that became underserved following the shutdown of electric ride-hailing platform Blusmart.

Delhi-NCR chosen as testing ground
According to Green SM India Chief Operating Officer Manoj Ravikanti, Delhi-NCR was selected because it offers a diverse consumer base and a large-scale urban transport ecosystem. The company intends to use the region to refine its operating model before expanding into other Indian cities.
According to The Indian Express, the service will cater primarily to daily commuters, airport transfers and business travellers. Passengers can book rides through the company’s mobile application, a dedicated hotline or by directly hailing available vehicles in operational zones.
Safety features have also been emphasised, with vehicles equipped with cameras, emergency assistance buttons and in-car monitoring systems.

A growing push for electric mobility
According to The Indian Express, Green SM’s arrival comes at a time when governments across India are pushing for wider electric vehicle adoption to reduce emissions and improve urban air quality. Delhi has been one of the country’s most aggressive promoters of EV adoption through policy incentives and infrastructure expansion.
The company says its drivers undergo specialised training in EV operations, road safety and customer service. To attract drivers, Green SM is offering a guaranteed payout of ₹35,000 per month during the initial two months, after which earnings will be linked to performance and incentives.
Speaking at the launch, Nguyen Van Thanh described India as one of the world’s most significant mobility markets, citing its scale, rapid growth and increasing openness to green transportation solutions. As competition in India’s EV ecosystem intensifies, Green SM’s performance in Delhi-NCR could provide an early indication of whether company-owned electric taxi fleets can carve out a sustainable niche in the country’s evolving mobility sector.
