ABVP recovers bombs from Birbhum college union room, allegations levelled against TMC-linked figures

Country-made bombs were recovered from the students’ union room of Labpur Sambhu Nath College in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Thursday, triggering tension on the campus and sparking political allegations.

According to police, the bombs were found inside a cupboard in the union room. Officers later removed the explosives and neutralised them by immersing them in water. Visuals from the college showed a commotion on the campus after the recovery.

The incident came to light when members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) visited the college.

Bombs recovered from union room

ABVP representative Raj Mondal claimed the explosives were discovered shortly after they entered the students’ union room.

“We had come to the college today on behalf of the ABVP. As soon as we entered the students’ union room, we discovered the bombs. Students had come to submit their assignments today, but academic activities were disrupted because of the incident,” he said.

Police reached the spot after being informed and secured the area before disposing of the explosives.

ABVP seeks prompt action

The ABVP alleged that some college staff members and individuals linked to the Trinamool Congress were aware of the activities inside the union room.

“The principal and some staff members are involved in this. Mannan ‘saheb’ from the TMC allegedly supported those responsible. We also found materials used for making bombs. Weapons were allegedly hidden inside cracks in the walls of the union room,” Mondal claimed.

He further alleged that other items, including condoms, were found in the room.

“Along with the two bombs, condoms were also found. A place meant for education had allegedly been turned into a space for storing bombs and weapons. This could have put many lives at risk. We informed the principal, but he said he had no knowledge of the matter. We demand that the principal and the entire staff resign,” he said.
