‘Nobody is above the law’: BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty supervises demolition of alleged illegal structures in Uttarpara

BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty on Friday supervised a demolition drive against alleged illegal structures in Uttarpara. Bulldozers were seen demolishing several structures inside the constituency during the operation.

The BJP MLA said the drive was part of a larger plan linked to urban development and action against alleged corruption.

Speaking to local media, Chakraborty said, “We have started implementing a broader plan for the entire town. Meetings have already been held with the administration, including the District Magistrate. This process has formally begun from today.”

He further alleged that a corruption network had developed around illegal construction activities in the area.

‘Action will be taken as per law’

During the demolition drive, questions were raised about whether illegal apartment buildings would also face similar action in the future.

Responding to this, Chakraborty said, “Whatever action is required under the law will be taken according to legal provisions.”

He also said that no official or public representative would be beyond scrutiny if any irregularities were found.

According to the BJP MLA, “Whether it is the chairman of the municipality, an executive officer or a lower-division clerk, everyone will remain under the purview of the law. The law will determine who is guilty.”

Chakraborty also linked the demolition drive to what he described as a larger effort to break alleged corruption syndicates in the region.

He said, “If action can be taken against the former Chief Minister, then nobody else is above the law.”

Referring to the demolition process, the BJP legislator added, “Sometimes destruction becomes necessary to create a new path for development. These illegal structures are being removed as part of that process.”

He further claimed that public money collected from Uttarpara would now go directly to the government treasury.

“Every rupee belonging to the people of Uttarpara should reach the government treasury and not end up in the pockets of leaders,” he said.
