How big is SpaceX’s IPO? Elon Musk’s company shatters global fundraising record

How big is SpaceX’s IPO? Elon Musk’s company shatters global fundraising record

SpaceX has created history with the world’s largest initial public offering (IPO), raising $75 billion and securing a valuation of $1.77 trillion ahead of its Nasdaq debut on Friday. The company sold 555.6 million shares at $135 each, making the listing significantly larger than any IPO seen before, Hindustan Times reported.

The offering surpassed the previous record held by Saudi Aramco, which raised $29.4 billion in 2019. SpaceX’s IPO raised more than two-and-a-half times that amount. If underwriters exercise an additional share purchase option, the total fundraising could rise to about $86 billion.

SpaceX joins world’s most valuable companies

At the IPO price, SpaceX is valued at $1.77 trillion, placing it among the world’s 10 most valuable publicly traded companies. The valuation exceeds that of companies such as Tesla, Meta Platforms, and Walmart.

The listing has also boosted the wealth of Elon Musk. Estimates suggest his net worth could approach or even exceed $1 trillion, potentially making him the world’s first trillionaire, as per HT.

However, the valuation has also attracted criticism. SpaceX reported revenue of $18.7 billion in 2025 but posted a loss of $4.9 billion during the same period due to heavy spending on artificial intelligence and infrastructure projects.

Analysts divided over valuation

Several analysts argue that much of SpaceX’s valuation is based on future projects rather than current earnings. These include plans involving expanded satellite internet services, artificial intelligence, space-based infrastructure and long-term ambitions linked to the Moon and Mars.

Veteran investor James Chanos described the listing as “a hopes-and-dreams IPO”, saying enthusiasm around Musk and AI is driving the valuation, HT reported.

“The total addressable market for space is infinite,” Chanos said. “You can build whatever stories you want – colonies on Mars, factories on the moon, data centres in space – to justify the valuation”.

The stock will begin trading on Friday under the ticker symbol SPCX, with investors closely watching whether the record-breaking valuation can be sustained in public markets.
