The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday announced the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) 2026, with Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana jointly securing All India Rank (AIR) 1. A total of 11.21 lakh candidates qualified the medical entrance examination this year.

Aryan shares advice for aspirants

Hindustan Times reported that the toppers scored 715 out of 720 each, while 19 candidates scored 700 and 138 obtained 690.

The topper Aryan Gupta, who comes from a family of doctors, said that “everything feels like a dream”. While speaking to PTI, Aryan said, “I worked hard; I would not get sleep, but it is feeling surreal now, looking like a dream. Everyone is happy. I studied for 16-17 hours in a day.” He also shared that he wants to become an oncologist.

“First of all, blindly follow your teachers. They have been teaching for many years. For 15-20 years,” Aryan added.

When was NEET-UG 2026 held?

The exam, originally conducted on May 3, was cancelled and re-conducted on June 21 due to allegations of paper leak. Uttar Pradesh produced the largest number of successful candidates, with over 1.7 lakh qualifying, while Lakshadweep had 43, as per reports by PTI.

The NTA conducts NEET every year for admission into medical colleges, with a total of 1,08,000 seats available for the MBBS course.

Counselling process to begin next

Following the NEET UG 2026 result, qualified candidates will now prepare for the counselling process. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will conduct admissions for the 15 per cent All India Quota seats, while state authorities will oversee counselling for their respective state quota seats.

Candidates have been advised to regularly check official websites for counselling schedules and admission updates. The NTA has also warned students against fraudulent counselling offers or fake admission communications seeking payments or personal information.

With results now declared, the focus shifts to seat allocation as thousands of aspiring doctors compete for admissions into India’s medical colleges.
