Zubair Baloch, brother of jailed Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch, was shot and seriously injured in Karachi on Thursday evening, according to police.
The case has caught attention in India as well, since Uzair Baloch was played by actor Danish Pandor in the Ranveer Singh film Dhurandhar and its sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

As per a report in Dawn, 40 year old Zubair was sitting outside his house in Singu Lane when two armed men on a motorcycle fired at him and fled. The shooting happened on the main Chakiwara Road in Karachi’s Lyari area.
South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza said Zubair was hit by several bullets, with injuries to his chest and stomach. He was undergoing surgery. One of two bystanders caught in the firing was also said to be in serious condition.
Police looking into possible reasons
Investigators are considering a few angles behind the attack, including personal rivalry and gang related conflict. The shooters had covered their faces.

DIG Raza said Zubair had faced arrest in seven criminal cases back in 2012 and was released from prison in January 2025.
Who is Uzair Baloch
Uzair Baloch used to head the now disbanded People’s Amn Committee, a group that once held major sway over Lyari’s political and criminal affairs.
In Dhurandhar, actor Danish Pandor plays Uzair as a Karachi gangster and close aide of Rehman Dakait, who is portrayed by Akshaye Khanna.
About the film
Dhurandhar is a spy action thriller set mostly in Pakistan in the early 2000s. Ranveer Singh plays an Indian agent named Jaskirat Singh Rangi, who takes on the identity of Hamza Ali Mazari and enters Lyari’s criminal world while trying to bring down a terror network that threatens India.
