The Government of India on Wednesday debunked false claims regarding the suspension of imports and the banning of Indian mangoes by Nepal. Terming the reports “factually incorrect and misleading,” the government has notified that exports of Indian mango variants have been continuing unhindered to the neighboring nation, News 18 reported.
What did the ministry inform?
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, it was said, “…certain media reports have informed that Nepal has imposed a ban or suspension on the import of mangoes from India. These reports are factually incorrect and misleading”.
“Imports continue to be permitted subject to prescribed phytosanitary requirements. Import permits and release orders are being issued upon compliance with these requirements,” the statement added.
The ministry further said that on June 10, the Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Centre of Nepal had made it clear that no ban was imposed on Indian mangoes.

Indian mango exports continue
India has exported 2005 tonnes of mangoes to Nepal in 149 consignments since January 2026, and only in June, 266 tonnes have been sent so far in 18 consignments, the ministry informed.
India is also working towards complying with Nepal’s new import requirements, which include a Hot Water Treatment (HWT) protocol, as per News18. Along with that, the agriculture department has also raised concerns over the introduction of phytosanitary norms, as it is deemed to have been done without consulting India.
The problems surrounding the norm are being handled through the World Trade Organisation’s Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) framework.
Traders and other bodies or individuals involved with the export of mangoes have been advised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to rely on official communications only and have been asked not to pay heed to unofficial and unverified claims concerning the suspension of exports to Nepal.
