In view of continuous heavy rainfall, red and orange alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and landslides at several locations, the Uttarakhand administration has temporarily halted the Char Dham Yatra.

Authorities issue instructions

All concerned District Magistrates and officials were directed by the Garhwal Commissioner to ensure that pilgrims already on the route are accommodated at safe locations, and to allow pilgrims to resume their onward journey only after the situation is completely safe.

The administration also said that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure, with the safety of the pilgrims being the top priority.

Pilgrims have been advised not to trust any rumours and pay attention to only official sources to stay updated regarding the situation.

Rainfall in Uttarakhand

Continuous rainfall in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district has led to a sharp rise in the water levels of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers.

The latest information showed the Alaknanda River at 625.00 metres and the Mandakini River at 624.15 metres, both reaching their respective warning levels. Water levels also went up to 799.90 metres in Ganganagar and 1,974.12 metres in Gaurikund.

Ghats developed under the Namami Gange project have been submerged due to the rising water levels.

As per the administration, Jakholi recorded 53 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, while Ukhimath received 77 mm and Rudraprayag recorded 22 mm. Residents and pilgrims have been advised to stay away from riverbanks and remain vigilant.
