Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay on Friday allocated portfolios to members of his newly sworn-in cabinet, retaining control of crucial departments including home, police, public administration and Indian Administrative Service matters.
According to official notifications, Vijay will also oversee special initiatives, special programme implementation and other departments not specifically allotted to ministers.
The portfolio allocation came days after the formation of the new government in the state following the Assembly election results.

Vijay keeps oversight over law and order
Senior leader K. A. Sengottaiyan was assigned the finance portfolio, while Dr KG Arunraj got health, medical, education and family welfare.
School education, industries, revenue, municipal administration, transport and agriculture were among the other major departments distributed within the cabinet.
The allocation reflects Vijay’s decision to retain direct oversight over law and order and administrative affairs in his first term as chief minister. The government sought to balance experienced political figures with newer faces while assigning key governance responsibilities.

The ministers and the departments assigned to them:
C Joseph Vijay – public administration, general administration, home, police, special programme implementation, women welfare, youth welfare, welfare of children, welfare of aged and differently abled persons, municipal administration, and urban and water supply.
Aadhav Arjuna – public works and sports development; he will oversee public works including buildings, highways and minor ports.
N Anand – rural development and water resources; including rural development, panchayats, poverty alleviation, rural indebtedness and irrigation projects.
K A Sengottaiyan – finance; including finance, pensions and pension allowances.
K G Arunraj – health, medical, education and family welfare.
CTR Nirmal Kumar – energy resources and law; including electricity and non-conventional energy development, law, courts, prisons and prevention of corruption, legislative assembly, elections and passports.
Rajmohan – school education, Tamil development and information and publicity; including archaeology, Tamil official language and Tamil culture, film technology and cinematograph act, newsprint control, stationery and printing, and government press.
S Keerthana – industries; including industries and investment promotion.
P Venkataraman – food and civil supplies; including consumer protection and price control.
T K Prabhu – natural resources; including minerals and mines.

Seniors will show the way
The departments linked to infrastructure, welfare delivery and economic administration were distributed among senior ministers expected to play a significant role in implementing the government’s agenda.
The portfolio announcement also marked the formal operational beginning of the new administration after the swearing-in ceremony earlier this week.
