‘Lotus blooms in West Bengal’: PM Modi hails BJP’s historic win, says ‘people’s power has prevailed’

As counting trends pointed to a landmark victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded on X, calling the outcome a triumph of public will.

“The Lotus blooms in West Bengal,” the Prime Minister wrote on Monday evening. “The 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People’s power has prevailed and BJP’s politics of good governance has triumphed. I bow to each and every person of West Bengal.”

His remarks came at a time when the party was steadily widening its lead, indicating a major political shift in a state long dominated by the Trinamool Congress.

‘Spectacular mandate’ and governance promise

Describing the verdict as a strong endorsement, Modi termed it a “spectacular” mandate in favour of his party. He said the BJP would work towards meeting the expectations of the people and focus on inclusive growth.

He added that the party’s government would strive to ensure both opportunity and dignity for citizens across communities, underlining a commitment to development-led governance.

Acknowledging party workers’ role

The Prime Minister also highlighted the contribution of party workers, crediting them for the scale of the victory.

“BJP’s record win in West Bengal would not be possible without the efforts and struggles of countless Karyakartas over generations. I salute them all. For years, they have worked hard on the ground, overcome all sorts of adversities and spoken about our development agenda. They are the strength of our party,” he said.

BJP set to form government for first time in Bengal

According to trends available till 6 pm, the BJP was leading in 205 seats, a sharp rise from its tally of 77 seats in the 2021 Assembly elections. The numbers indicate that the party is on course to form its first government in the state.

The outcome also signals the end of a three-term run for Mamata Banerjee and the All India Trinamool Congress, marking a significant moment in West Bengal’s political landscape.
