Former Agniveers will soon get a dedicated pathway into government employment in the national capital after the Delhi administration approved a 20 per cent reservation in several Group C posts.
The decision, reviewed by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, expands employment opportunities for former military recruits beyond Delhi Police and brings multiple departments under a single framework.
The move is part of a broader effort to create long-term career opportunities for ex-Agniveers after they complete their four-year service under the Agnipath scheme.
Multiple frontline government jobs brought under reservation
NDTV noted that the 20 per cent quota will apply to direct recruitment across several critical public service positions.
These include police constables, firemen, jail warders, forest guards and wildlife guards.
Officials said all eligible former Agniveers will be able to apply for these vacancies across various Delhi government departments and agencies.
Authorities have also been permitted to place former Agniveers in positions that can benefit from the skills, discipline and operational experience gained during their military training.

Departments asked to implement policy by June 30
NDTV noted that the Lieutenant Governor has instructed all departments to complete amendments to recruitment rules and administrative procedures by June 30.
Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Delhi Police Commissioner, attended the review meeting where the policy’s implementation roadmap was discussed.
In a statement shared on social media, Sandhu said the initiative is aimed at recognising the service of former Agniveers while ensuring equal opportunities in public employment.
The administration believes the policy will help channel trained and disciplined personnel into public-facing roles that require strong physical and organisational capabilities.

Part of a wider national strategy
Delhi’s decision aligns with the Union government’s larger plan to absorb ex-Agniveers into civilian employment after their military tenure.
NDTV noted that the Centre has already announced reservation benefits and age relaxations for former Agniveers in recruitment to the Central Armed Police Forces and the Assam Rifles.
Several states have also introduced similar measures in police services and other government departments.
The Agnipath scheme, introduced in 2022, recruits young men and women into the armed forces for four years. While a section is retained for permanent service, many transition into civilian careers after completing their tenure.
