Khajuraho Airport in Madhya Pradesh has emerged as India’s highest-rated airport for passenger satisfaction in the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) 2026 National Customer Satisfaction Index. Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal secured the third position, highlighting the state’s efforts to improve airport infrastructure and traveller experience.
The rankings are based entirely on passenger feedback collected across airports in the country. Travellers evaluated airports on parameters including cleanliness, security, staff behaviour, check-in experience, waiting time, catering facilities, information systems and overall service quality.

Officials described the recognition as a significant achievement for Madhya Pradesh’s aviation and tourism sectors.
Why did Khajuraho airport rank first?
The results of AAI’s passenger survey show that Khajuraho Airport did well on various aspects of services. This shows how much improvement has been made in terms of passenger facilities and efficiencies.
Director of Khajuraho Airport, Santosh Singh has stated that it is especially meaningful for tourism purposes. Singh stated that good air connectivity and service quality will bring many more tourists from India and abroad to the UNESCO world heritage site of Khajuraho Group of Monuments.
Singh credited the airport’s staff and passengers for the achievement, adding that efforts would continue to further enhance service standards and provide world-class facilities.
How does the airport support tourism?
Located around three kilometres from Khajuraho town, the airport serves both Khajuraho and Chhatarpur districts. Developed in 1978 to improve connectivity to the famous temple complex, the airport has expanded alongside the region’s growing tourism industry.
Currently, the terminal offers up-to-date facilities such as check-in counters, baggage claims, security, shopping centers, food courts, and displays of artworks and sculptures for passengers to get familiar with the local culture on arrival.

Given the fact that Khajuraho took the first spot and Bhopal featured in the top three, the authorities think that the rankings would help the state become more attractive for tourists in the future.
