The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia as the chair of its newly formed Governance Review Committee during its Annual Conference in Edinburgh. The ICC also approved a financial loan for Cricket West Indies and took several key decisions aimed at strengthening the game’s global administration.

Devjit Saikia handed key governance role

Saikia will lead the Governance Review Committee, which has been formed to review the ICC’s existing governance structure and recommend reforms to improve transparency and efficiency. He will work alongside Cricket South Africa’s Dr Mohammed Moosajee and ICC Independent Director Dr Ros Rivaz on the committee.

In addition to this responsibility, Saikia has also been named a member of the ICC’s Franchise Leagues Committee. The panel, chaired by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, will examine issues related to the rapid growth of franchise cricket and its impact on the international game.

The appointments further strengthen India’s presence in global cricket administration, with Saikia set to play a major role in shaping the ICC’s future governance policies.

ICC approves loan for Cricket West Indies

The ICC Board also approved a loan of USD 12.82 million for Cricket West Indies to help the board meet its financial commitments and improve cash flow.

The governing body expanded its membership by welcoming Mauritius as its 111th member. Meanwhile, Cricket Canada will remain suspended until it fulfils the governance and compliance requirements set by the ICC.

The decisions taken at the annual meetings reflect the ICC’s focus on improving governance, supporting financially challenged member boards and expanding the sport across the world. With Saikia leading the Governance Review Committee, the ICC is expected to undertake a comprehensive review of its administrative framework while working towards a more transparent and efficient governance system for international cricket.
