Which are the two teams that bid for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the IPL auction?

When teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s name came up during the IPL auction, history was made as the youngster became the youngest player ever to earn a contract in the tournament. Yet, behind the celebrations and headlines, the young batter admits he was not entirely happy.

Speaking about the moment that changed his life, Sooryavanshi revealed that his first reaction after being bought by Rajasthan Royals was not excitement but disappointment. Despite securing a contract worth more than a crore rupees, he wondered why only two franchises showed interest in him.

At the time, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals battled for his signature before the Royals secured the talented youngster. For Sooryavanshi, however, the limited interest raised questions about how he was being viewed despite strong performances in trials and age-group cricket.

A franchise that became family

According to NDTV, the teenager’s perspective changed dramatically once he joined the Rajasthan Royals setup. Looking back now, Sooryavanshi says joining the Jaipur-based franchise turned out to be one of the best things that could have happened to him.

He described the environment within the franchise as welcoming and family-orientated, crediting the coaching staff, support personnel, senior players and management for helping him settle into professional cricket. According to him, the atmosphere allowed him to express himself freely and learn without fear.

The young batter also highlighted the role senior players played in guiding him through the pressures of top-level cricket. From technical advice to life lessons, he says the support system around him accelerated his development both on and off the field.

Dream debut announced arrival

According to NDTV, Sooryavanshi’s rise gathered pace when Rajasthan Royals handed him an IPL debut at just 14 years of age. The youngster immediately grabbed attention by smashing a six off the very first ball he faced.

His breakthrough moment arrived only a few matches later when he blasted a stunning century in just 35 deliveries, instantly becoming one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket.

The fearless approach that made him a youth cricket sensation translated seamlessly to the biggest T20 stage, earning praise from former players and experts alike.

The face of IPL’s new generation

According to NDTV, if IPL 2025 announced his arrival, IPL 2026 established Sooryavanshi as one of the competition’s biggest stars. The teenager produced a remarkable campaign, amassing 776 runs in 16 matches while maintaining an extraordinary strike rate of 237.

Those performances earned him both the Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player award, making him one of the youngest players ever to dominate an IPL season.
