Victoria Mboko out of Wimbledon 2026 after knee injury, Serena Williams doubles comeback cut short

Canadian tennis star Victoria Mboko will miss Wimbledon 2026 after suffering a knee injury during the Queen’s Club Championships in London. The 19-year-old, who has emerged as one of the brightest talents on the WTA Tour, sustained the injury after slipping during her singles match against former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova. Medical examinations later confirmed damage to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her left knee.

The setback comes at a difficult time for Mboko, who has enjoyed a breakthrough season and climbed into the world’s top 10. Wimbledon was expected to be another major opportunity for the Canadian to continue her rise on the biggest stage in tennis. However, the injury has forced her to withdraw from the grass-court Grand Slam before the tournament begins.

Serena Williams’ partnership cut short

Mboko’s injury also brought an abrupt end to Serena Williams’ much-anticipated return to professional tennis. The legendary American had partnered with Mboko in the doubles draw at Queen’s Club, marking her first competitive appearance in nearly four years.

The pair made an impressive start by defeating third seeds Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez in straight sets. Their victory generated excitement among fans eager to see Williams back on court.

However, Mboko’s injury forced the duo to withdraw before their quarterfinal match, ending the partnership after just one completed contest.

A setback for one of tennis’s rising stars

Mboko has rapidly established herself as one of the leading young players in women’s tennis. The Canadian enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2025 and continued that momentum into 2026 with strong performances at major tournaments and WTA events. Her rise into the top 10 highlighted her growing status as a future Grand Slam contender.

While the Wimbledon withdrawal is a significant disappointment, attention will now turn to her recovery timeline. Fans and analysts will hope the injury does not interrupt the long-term development of one of the sport’s most promising talents.
