Samsung just gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 through a tie-in with Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The teaser ends with the line “A brand new shape for a brand new day,” a not-so-subtle hint at the wider-screen Fold 8 that’s been rumored for months.

In the ad, Spider-Man’s phone keeps getting wrecked as he swings around fighting crime, which sets up the idea that he needs something tougher.

It plays out like a behind-the-scenes moment of Peter Parker ditching his old phone for a Galaxy device, with “the Fabricator” (Tony Stark-style tech from the films) building him a lineup of phones tailored to a superhero’s rough lifestyle.

There’s also a quick tease of the Galaxy Z Flip 8, but the real star is the Z Fold 8, though Samsung keeps it deliberately blurred out. All we get is that it has a “new shape,” which lines up with rumors that this year’s Fold will finally get a wider screen than previous models.

Samsung teases wider Galaxy Z Fold 8 ahead of Unpacked

Earlier this week, Samsung shared a promo image tied to Galaxy Unpacked and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The image gives a glimpse of a phone that’s thin but wide, has two rear cameras, and moves its buttons closer to the top edge.

This year looks different for Samsung, the company is expected to launch three foldable phones instead of the usual lineup. That includes two versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8: one with a wider, passport-shaped body (similar to the Huawei Pura X Max) and a second model called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Both phones are expected to launch at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22.

Meanwhile, there’s buzz that Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone, expected later this year, might also come with a wider display, suggesting the whole foldable phone category could be shifting toward roomier screens.

Wider Fold 8 brings passport-style design

The new design gives the Fold 8 a cover screen that feels more like a normal phone, and an inner screen that feels more like a tablet. Instead of the usual tall, narrow outer display, this wider version has a shorter, squarer shape, closer to a passport, which is easier to use while folded. Google’s original Pixel Fold used a similar layout.

Joining the Fold 8 Wide and Fold 8 Ultra will be the Galaxy Z Flip 8, though this clamshell model might be the last of its kind in Samsung’s foldable lineup.

The event won’t just be about foldables. Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, and could finally give a release date for its first “Galaxy Glasses”, smart glasses built on Google’s Android XR platform.

On the movie side, Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters July 31, 2026. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as MJ, along with Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, and Liza Colón-Zayas.
