Commuters in Kolkata are likely to face traffic diversions and movement restrictions on Tuesday as three separate political programmes are scheduled at key locations across the city. According to a notification issued by Kolkata Police, traffic movement will be regulated on several major roads, while no-parking restrictions will remain in force around the Victoria Memorial area.
Three political gatherings across Kolkata
Three different political events are being held on Tuesday at separate venues in central Kolkata.
The Mamata Banerjee faction of the Trinamool Congress will organise its programme in front of Birla Planetarium. The rebel faction will gather near the Gandhi statue, while the Congress will observe its July 21 Martyrs’ Day programme at Shahid Minar.

With large crowds expected at all three locations, traffic regulations have been put in place to manage vehicular movement and maintain public safety.

Kolkata Police has announced that traffic movement will be regulated on the following roads during the programmes:
New Road
Dufferin Road
Hospital Road
Queens Way
Chowringhee Road
Jawaharlal Nehru Road
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternate routes to avoid delays.
No-parking zone around Victoria Memorial
Parking restrictions will also be enforced in and around the Victoria Memorial precinct.
No vehicles will be allowed to park in the following areas:
AJC Bose Road stretch from Hastings Crossing to Cathedral Road
Hospital Road
Queens Way
Cathedral Road
Casuarina Avenue
Lovers Lane
Authorities have urged drivers to avoid parking in these locations to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the day.
Security arrangements across key venues
Kolkata Police has stepped up security measures for the day, with around 1,000 police personnel deployed across the three event venues, including Shahid Minar, the Gandhi statue and Birla Planetarium.

To strengthen surveillance, drones will monitor all three locations from the air. Senior officers will also oversee the arrangements, with at least five Deputy Commissioners, including officials from the Central and South Divisions, supervising the overall security operation.
In addition, personnel from the HRFS, RAF and central forces have been deployed to help maintain law and order and respond to any untoward situation.
