West Bengal weather is expected to remain unsettled over the coming days as multiple weather systems remain active across the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, heavy rain and cloudy skies across Kolkata, South Bengal and North Bengal, with rainfall expected to intensify again from Thursday.
While parts of South Bengal are likely to receive rain until Tuesday afternoon, the weather is expected to remain favourable for more widespread showers later this week.
Three weather systems active over the region
According to meteorologists, three separate weather systems are influencing the weather over eastern India.

A monsoon trough currently stretches from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan to Manipur in Northeast India. At the same time, a cyclonic circulation remains active over the Bay of Bengal. Another monsoon trough extends from Bihar through Bangladesh to Manipur.
The combined impact of these systems has created conditions conducive to rainfall across West Bengal.
Kolkata weather: Rain to ease briefly before picking up again
The IMD said Kolkata will remain under cloudy skies throughout Tuesday. Scattered spells of rain and thunderstorms are likely in some parts of the city until the afternoon.
Rainfall may reduce slightly from the evening, but the relief is expected to be temporary. High moisture levels in the air are likely to keep humidity high, adding to discomfort. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue till Wednesday.
From Thursday, rainfall is likely to become more widespread across Kolkata once again.
Heavy rain alert for several South Bengal districts
The weather office has forecast heavy rainfall on Thursday in several districts of South Bengal, including:
Howrah
Purba Bardhaman
Paschim Bardhaman
Bankura
Purulia
Paschim Medinipur
These districts are expected to witness more intense rainfall as the weather systems continue to influence the region.

North Bengal to see fresh spell of rain from Friday
Thunderstorms and rain are expected to continue across all districts of North Bengal on Tuesday. The hilly areas are likely to receive isolated spells of heavy rainfall.
Although rainfall activity may decrease slightly on Wednesday and Thursday, the IMD expects the intensity and coverage of rain to increase again from Friday.
With multiple weather systems remaining active, both North Bengal and South Bengal are likely to witness an unsettled weather pattern over the coming days.
