A special bench of the Calcutta High Court heard the urgent plea on Sunday after Leaps & Bounds, a company where Abhishek Banerjee’s father Amit Banerjee is a director, challenged the demolition initiated by the South 24 Parganas district administration.
Senior advocate Kishor Dutta argued that no proper notice had been served to the company before demolition work began. After hearing the submissions, the court ordered that no further demolition should take place and asked the administration to file its response before the next hearing.

Demolition drive began over alleged construction violations
The district administration started the demolition on Saturday, claiming the structure had been built without an approved plan and violated applicable construction norms.
Officials deployed police personnel and central forces around the premises before bringing in bulldozers to remove portions of the building. Fire and emergency services teams were also stationed at the site as a precaution.
According to the Hindustan Times, the action followed due administrative procedure and was linked to alleged violations of building rules rather than to any political consideration. The administration has maintained that the demolition was carried out strictly under existing legal provisions.
