Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to forgive students accused of using abusive language during the Jantar Mantar protest, questioning whether the government’s message of compassion will be accompanied by the withdrawal of criminal cases against them.
In response to the selfie-style video uploaded by the Prime Minister of India on his social media page, Dipke enquired whether the promise of forgiveness extended only to the public or would it include any legal action as well against the protesting people.
This comes in wake of a case being filed against a teenage protester for making derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister in the recent protest march held in Delhi.

What did Dipke say following PM Modi’s message?
Within minutes of PM Modi’s message, Dipke reacted on his social media page asking whether the students would only receive symbolic forgiveness or their cases would also be withdrawn along with it.
CJP founder also enquired about selective legal action, as according to him, the remarks made by political workers about the Prime Minister via social media sites had received no police action either.

Why has the issue become a political flashpoint?
The discussion came after Prime Minister Modi’s request that the society should not punish the protesting students but rather guide them. In the video message, the Prime Minister expressed his concern over the language used by the protesting students in the videos, adding that the law should allow them to learn from their mistakes without taking them through long legal processes.

The issue has persisted even after a case arising from the protest video has been referred to the Delhi Police for further investigation.
In the meantime, the CJP has insisted that the law should be equally applied, whereas the Prime Minister has advised the students to go ahead and make positive contributions to the country.
