Meta has said it is cooperating with authorities after Hyderabad Police registered a case against the company’s India head, Arun Srinivas, over the alleged circulation of morphed and objectionable social media content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests.

Responding to the development on Friday, a Meta spokesperson confirmed that the company is in contact with the investigating agencies.
“We are in touch with the concerned agencies and are cooperating with them to resolve the matter,” the spokesperson said, according to ANI.

The case was registered by the Cybercrime unit of the Hyderabad Police against Arun Srinivas and several Facebook and Instagram accounts. The action relates to the alleged circulation of manipulated images and videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Meta-owned platforms.

Complaint alleges circulation of morphed content
According to the complaint, two individuals claimed they came across multiple digitally altered posts while browsing Instagram. They alleged the content included morphed videos and images of the Prime Minister presented in an obscene, derogatory and misleading manner.
The complainants also stated that the posts attracted comments that further amplified the content.
“The comments contain offensive language, ridicule, and indecent remarks directed at the Hon’ble Prime Minister and other individuals depicted in the manipulated content, thereby amplifying the offensive nature of the posts and encouraging their wider circulation and engagement. The above content appears to have been digitally altered or AI-generated and circulated on social media.”
They further argued that such material could have wider consequences beyond social media engagement.
“Such content has the potential to mislead the public, spread misinformation, incite hatred or public unrest, outrage public decency, defame or insult the dignity of public figures, disturb public order, promote hostility among different sections of society, and otherwise violate the applicable provisions of law”.

The complaint was filed by S Aravind Reddy, a 29-year-old businessman, and T Saikiran Goud, a Telangana BJP activist.
CJP protest followed NEET paper leak controversy
The case comes days after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Abhijeet Dipke, concluded its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The demonstrations were linked to the controversy surrounding the May 3 NEET-UG paper leak. Students participating in the protest demanded wider reforms in the education system along with the resignation of the Education Minister, making the issue one of the most discussed national debates in recent weeks.
