In a major development for Indian football, Jamshedpur FC has announced that it will not participate in the 2026-27 Indian Super League season. The club made the announcement through an official statement on social media, confirming its decision to step away from the country’s premier football competition.

The statement did not mention a specific reason behind the withdrawal.

Established in 2017 and owned by the Tata Group, Jamshedpur FC quickly emerged as one of the league’s competitive sides. The club lifted the ISL Shield in the 2021-22 campaign and remained among the title contenders in recent seasons. In the 2025-26 edition, Jamshedpur finished four points behind champions East Bengal.

Club to continue supporting football development

Although the senior team will no longer compete in the ISL, Jamshedpur FC made it clear that its involvement in Indian football will continue through youth and grassroots initiatives.

The club said, “Jamshedpur Football Club would like to confirm that it will not be participating in ISL from 2026-27 season onwards.

JFSPL remains committed, in other capacities, to the continued growth and development of football in India. We will continue in our endeavour to promote and develop the game of football, including at the grassroots level. We will continue to identify and develop young football talent across India to create a strong pathway for young players from grassroots to national and international football.”

The club also thanked its supporters, players, coaching staff and everyone associated with its journey since entering the league.

“Most importantly, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Jamshedpur FC football fans who have vociferously filled the JRD Tata Sports Complex with their passionate support over the past decade and made the stadium a Furnace! We would also like to thank all the players, staff, coaches, employees and other personnel who have made this journey a resounding success since our inception in 2017!” the post stated.

ISL now reduced to 13 teams
